Typographic restaurant

These are visuals for a typographic restaurant named Mutton Quad, for a project set by ISTD. The aesthetics are based on the concept of a rustic Italian butchers crossed with a type foundry. The Ravioli shaped logo represents the similarities between food and traditional typesetting by acting as the ‘Chase’, holding all the type together. There is plenty of texture to represent the hand craftsmanship of these two settings.
The metal Typestting theme is displayed on the cutlery, which have type slug ends, allowing diners to ‘print’ their food. The idea of the Ravioli acting as the Typesetting Chase is enhanced by the accompanying image of a Chase with Ravioli edges. This will be used along side the Logo and the Ravioli logo form to for interior wall paintings
The menu will sit inside wooden typecases, strengthening the link to the way type was used in printing. The menu case is made from a California Job Typecase. The spare compartments can be decorated with pasta, where there would have been metal type. This represents the restaurant concept of merging food and traditional typesetting.

A potential Press ad uses a Letraset transfer to represent the letterpress process. It will be a three page ad, showing Ravioli, a Typesetting Chase and the blank logo form. The reader has to engage with the advert to reveal the logotype. Demonstrating the hand crafted nature of traditional typesetting and traditional Italian food. Instructions will tell the reader to turn back to the previous page and rub over the Ravioli image. This will print the logotype. These individual images can also be used as conventional posters.

I designed my own display typeface based on Bodoni LT Bold Condensed, adding Ravioli edge trimmings.
